Our latest research with the Night Time Industries Association (NTIA), examining Sydney's night-time economy has been featured across a number of industry publications, including Drinks Trade, highlighting both the progress that's been made and the challenges that remain.
The second annual NightPulse Report, an independent study commissioned by the NTIA with the support of the City of Sydney, explores how Sydneysiders experience the city after dark, from perceptions of safety and accessibility through to the practical barriers that influence whether people choose to head out.
While overall sentiment towards Sydney's nightlife has improved in recent years, the research found that issues including late-night public transport and perceptions of policing continue to affect participation. More than a third of respondents said they found police and security guards intimidating in nightlife settings, a figure that has remained largely unchanged year-on-year.
These findings reinforce that creating a thriving night-time economy requires more than great venues and events. Transport, safety, accessibility and the overall visitor experience all play a role in encouraging people to spend more time in the city after dark.
