Thank you for your interest in participating in the Some Happy Day study.

The producers of Some Happy Day, Soup Kitchen Productions, have teamed up with Lonergan Research,, and Screenkind to conduct a study measuring the effectiveness of these lesson plans and the
movie on changing students’ attitudes and behaviours towards homelessness.
Knowing how students feel and think about homelessness is the first step to social change, and we also
value your important feedback about the lesson plans and their effectiveness in the classroom. This
data allows us to refine and improve these resources, and continue our mission to help end

If you are an English teacher with a Year 9 and/or Year 10 class and would like to take part (or
know someone who does), please contact us at for more information,
including research materials (student and teacher questionnaires).

When we receive your email (please provide your details, including a phone number) we will
be in touch to get you started.

How will the study be conducted?

You will receive a pre-exposure questionnaire which will be given to students before starting the lesson plans. This questionnaire should take no more than 5 minutes to complete and will measure their attitudes and behaviours surrounding homelessness.

After viewing the movie Some Happy Day and completing the lesson plans, you will be given the post-exposure questionnaire which students will complete within 2 weeks of the lesson plans concluding. The post-exposure questionnaire is identical to the pre-exposure questionnaire and will also take no more than 5 minutes to complete.

We will also provide you with a teacher evaluation survey in which we will ask for your feedback about the lesson plans, including how well they suited the syllabus and whether you observed any changes in students’ attitudes.

The teacher evaluation should take no more than 7 minutes to complete.
All data will be completely anonymous and confidential. Lonergan Research is bound by the Research Society Code of Professional Behaviour and the Privacy Act.

Will questionnaires be online or on paper?

Questionnaires would preferably be completed online in class time, however if paper copies are preferred or required we are more than happy to provide these.
Completed paper copies can be sent back to the Lonergan Research reply-paid mailbox.

When do I need to complete the study by?

We would ideally like to have all post-exposure and teacher evaluation surveys completed by the end of Term 4, 2024. If this does not suit you and you would still like to participate, please contact us at and we can discuss what works best.

Will mine and my students’ data be safe?

All responses, including students’ responses, will be entirely anonymous and confidential. We are an ISO27001:2022 (cybersecurity) and ISO20252:2019 (market research) accredited research company and are listed with The Research Society. We comply with our obligations under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) (Privacy Act) and the Privacy Amendment Acts of 2012 (Enhancing Privacy Protection) and 2017 (Notifiable Data Breaches).

All Lonergan staff assigned to work on any research project will have signed our internal confidentiality policies. Project staff will be prepared to also sign confidentiality documents of the client as required. Our data collection process ensures that the appropriate security and safe-keeping measures of all data
and other information associated with the project has been undertaken.

I would like to receive my class’s results.

We are more than happy to provide anonymised, aggregate data of your class’s responses. However, we cannot provide individual responses and will not be recording any identifiable information about students.
